Weekend Goal Rush: Moses, Lookman, Orban, others shine across top European Leagues

Another weekend of football has come and gone and Nigerian goal scorers did quite well for their respective clubs across major leagues in Europe.

Gift Orban is enjoying a good start to life in the German Bundesliga with Hoffenheim while Moses Simon continues to show how important he is to Nantes.

Ademola Lookman of course scored for Atalanta after a dramatic week that saw his coach Gian Piero Gasperini call out for missing a penalty despite his goal against Club Brugge as La Dea crashed out of the Champions League.

We take a look at how these players among others fared for their respective club sides over the weekend.

The reigning African Footballer of the Year put Gasperini’s criticism aside as he bagged a brace in Atalanta’s 5-0 away win at Empoli.

Lookman’s goals on the night took his tally in the league to 12 after 20 matches.

He scored the late in the first half and early in the second half to help Atalanta to a resounding victory which 0ut them three points off the top spot.

The 27-year-old took to social media to celebrate his 17th goal of the season with a post he captioned “Pain into Power.”

 

2. Gift Orban

The Super Eagles winger scored his fourth league goal of the season in Hoffenheim’s one-all home draw against Stuttgart.

Orban scored an 74th minute equalizer to rescue Hoffenheim from defeat.

The forward has been impressive since he joined Hoffenheim from Lyon in the January transfer window.

Gift Orban has now scored four goals in seven league matches since his arrival.

 

3. Moses Simon

The Super Eagles forward scored his sixth league goal of the season against Lens on Sunday.

Moses Simon scored the second goal in Nantes 3-1 from the penalty spot.

The 29-year-old has been instrumental for the Cannaries with six goals and seven assists in 21 matches this season.

 

4. Tom Dele-Bashiru

Fisayo Dele-Bashiru’s brother is having a good season at Watford this season.

The midfielder scored from the penalty spot in Watford’s 2-0 win over Luton Town.

Fisayo scored his fourth goal in 17 matches as Watford moved to the ninth spot on the Championship log.

 

5. Francis Ezeh

The midfielder was in action for 45 mimutes in Keciorengucu and Genclerbirligi played out a six-goal thriller on Saturday.

Ezeh came on a second half substitute to score Keciorengucu’s second goal of the match.

The 27-year-old midfielder joined Keciorengucu from Serbian side Zeleznicar Pancevo during the Winter transfer window.

Francis Ezeh has now scored two goals in six league matches since he joined the club.
