Liverpool star Mohamed Salah has revealed the real reason behind his quest to win the Ballon d’Or.
For most of the current season, the Egyptian was the front runner to win the award.
However, Liverpool’s collapse in the UEFA Champions League, after already crashing out of the FA & Carabao Cup has pushed him behind the likes of Barcelona duo Lamine Yamal and Raphinha, and recently Ousmane Dembele.
Speaking to France Football, Salah said,
“It’s not in my hands but obviously one day I would like to win the award for my people.
“When you come from a village in Egypt, it’s difficult to even dream of the Ballon d’Or.
“It was when I came to Liverpool that I started to think maybe this is possible.”
Salah has still had an exceptional individual season and is on course to win the Premier League Golden Boot with 28 goals.
His return of 56 direct goal involvements places him at the top of all players in the top 5 leagues.
