“Why did the Super Eagles players not recieve their bronze medals after Sunday’s final between Senegal v Morocco?” was the only question on the lips of Nigerian football fans after the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations came to an end on Sunday.

Nigeria beat Egypt 4-2 on penalties on Saturday evening to claim their ninth bronze medal in the history of the competition.

However, the players and officials of the team were absent during the medals presentation ceremony on Sunday.

President of the Nigeria Football Federation, (NFF) Ibrahim Musa Gusau has explained why the players didn’t get their medals.

He confirmed that most of the players returned to their clubs after the third place match against Egypt but has the medals with him.

“The players could not wait to receive their medals on Sunday. Their clubs swere already after them to come back after Saturday’s game. I have the medals in my possession. And this is the case for #Egypt Eagles Touristsa, not just us. Had the medal ceremony taken place on the day of the match, they would have had the medals,”
