Real Madrid gaffer Xabi Alonso has confirmed that he won’t punish Vinicius Jr after the forward apologised following his action in the El Clásico victory on Sunday.
Vinicius Jr featured for over 70 minutes in the heavyweight clash at the Santiago Bernabeu but stormed into the dressing room after he was replaced by countryman, Rodrygo.
The Brazilian forward later came back to the bench to cheer his teammates to victory as they ended the four-game losing streak to Barcelona with a 2-1 win.
Vinicius Jr went on to issue a note of apology to the fans on social media and to his teammates in training after the incident.
He explained he was overcome with emotions but pledged to always give his best for the team.
Ahead of Valencia’s visit this weekend, Xabi Alonso said the player won’t be punished as he has already done the right thing.
“Vinicius Jr will NOT be punished. The matter is closed”. “He was impeccable in his speech in front of all of us.”
After the El Clásico victory, Real Madrid will look to extend their lead at the top of the league with a win over Valencia this Saturday.
Real Madrid lead with 27 points, five points more than their rivals, Barcelona.
