Former Manchester City defender Nedum Onuoha has jokingly claimed that Vincent Kompany took everything from him after introducing the Belgian to his future wife.
Speaking in a light-hearted interview, Onuoha recalled how he had known Kompany’s wife, Carla, for years before the former City captain arrived in Manchester.
“I’ve been friends with his wife, Mrs. Kompany, for years before I knew Vinnie,” Onuoha said. “I knew Carla well, I thought she’s definitely going to like him. He’s probably going to like her.”
The former defender explained that he helped the pair meet after Kompany moved to Manchester.
“If you ever come up to Manchester, whatever. Next thing, he’s fully signed in Manchester. So I said, yeah sure, that’s my friend, get to know each other,” he added.
Onuoha then joked about how the story unfolded, with the couple now married with children.
“Been all this time now, kids, everything. Married, kids,” he said.
He humorously added that he was not invited to their wedding.
“Did I get invited to the wedding? No, I didn’t. No way.”
When told that Kompany had “stolen” his number after meeting his wife, Onuoha laughed and replied: “Listen, I lost a friend, I lost the number. You took everything from me.”
Onuoha and Kompany were teammates at Manchester City during the early years of the club’s rise, with both defenders playing key roles before Kompany went on to become one of the most successful captains in the club’s history.
