Zimbabwean coach Nees confident ahead of clash against Benin Republic, Nigeria

Coach of the Zimbabwean national team, Michael, says he has confidence in the ability of his team as they take on the Squirrels of Benin and Nigeria’s Super Eagles ahead of the World Cup qualifiers.

Nees says his team has to restart the World Cup qualifiers and be positive as they take on Benin Republic and Nigeria.

Zimbabwe is in a very difficult position as they sit bottom of Group C with two points from four matches in the qualifiers.

However, Michael Nees is not throwing in the towel yet with six matches left to play in the qualification series.

The 57-year-old German coach shared his thoughts while speaking to the media on Wednesday ahead of the match against Gernot Rohr’s Benin Republic.

“We have to restart this World Cup qualification positively,” Nees said.

“We want to do that, to get the positive mood going, and to do everything in our power. Power to turn the table a little bit around, turn the page, and move up.”

“That’s our approach. And now we have to look at what is the next task at hand. The next task at hand is a difficult game against Benin (on Thursday).”

Zimbabwe will host Benin Republic at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban on Thursday and travel to play Nigeria on Tuesday at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo.

The Super Eagles, just like Zimbabwe, are also in a tight corner in the qualification series with three points as they take on Rwanda on Friday.

Eric Chelle faces an uphill task as he looks to take the Super Eagles on a run of form that will see them qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
