Premier League: 3 Takeaways from the weekend’s action

The Premier League was as exciting as ever for matchweek 9, with some players finding their level and Manchester City returning to the top of the table.

Here are three takeaways from another exciting weekend.

1. Alex Iwobi has improved massively

Alex Iwobi struggled to reach his best level under the likes of Carlo Ancelotti, Rafael Benítez, and Frank Lampard at Everton.

However,  his name never rang around Goodison Park as it did on Saturday when Fulham supporters serenaded the midfielder not only for a fine goal – but for an excellent performance and influential display.

The 28-year-old is enjoying a fine season under Marco Silva and his improvement is clear for all to see.

2. Ten Hag is on borrowed time

Sooner or later, the bubble will burst and INEOS will pull the plug on Erik ten Hag’s time as Manchester United boss.

4 wins in 14 games and just 3 wins in 9 Premier League matches have the Red Devils languishing in mid-table.

The defeat against West Ham was just another bad day in the office for a man who is now having too many bad days, and it is time for the owners to make a decision.

3. Eddie Howe and Newcastle need results soon

Newcastle United’s promising start has given way to a frustrating slump, far from the ambitions envisioned when Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund took over three years ago.

After the weekend’s 2-1 defeat to Chelsea,  a Carabao Cup game against the same opponents provides an opportunity for a morale boost, but the Premier League is where it counts.

Up next is the visit of Arsenal and the victories need to start coming again soon.
