The Super Falcons played their first friendly match on Tuesday evening as they secured a comfortable win over Cameroon.
Rashedat Ajibade, team captain, bagged a first-half brace on a rainy evening to secure a 2-0 win over the visitors.
The second half ended goalless as the Super Falcons held on to their lead while Chiamaka Nnadozie made a last-minute stunning save to keep the scoreline the same.
Three Lessons learned from Super Falcons’ win over Cameroon
1. Dominance
The Super Falcons showed their dominance over Cameroon as they recorded their 15th win in 21 meetings. Cameroon are winless against the nine-time African champions in their previous seven meetings across all competitions. Their last win over the Super Falcons dates back to a 1-0 victory at the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in 2012.
2. Over-reliance on Nnadozie
Chiamaka Nnadozie is without a doubt the best women’s goalkeeper in Africa and currently in the top 10 in the world. The shot stopper was in between the sticks on Tuesday and made a couple of saves to prove her worth. However, being a friendly match, Justin Madugu could have allowed the other invited goalkeeper to get a taste of the action, considering the team had a comfortable lead.
3 . Ajibade’s 15th goal
The 25-year-old forward is one of the most consistent members of the squad. Ajibade proved her importance to the Super Eagles set up as he bagged her 15th goal for the team on her 31st cap for the national team. In the absence of star striker, Asisat Oshoala, Ajibade stepped up to the occasion to help the team secure victory.
