3 Reasons Chelsea FC Decided to Sack Liam Rosenior

Chelsea’s decision to part ways with Liam Rosenior may not have come as a shock to those who have followed the club’s recent run closely.

While his time in charge was relatively short, was in charge of the club for 13 Premier League matches, the pressure at Stamford Bridge leaves little room for patience when results do not match expectations.

Here are three key reasons behind the club’s decision.

1. Poor Results at a Crucial Stage

The timing of the decision says a lot. Chelsea are still chasing European qualification, currently in 7th position and remain in the FA Cup, which makes this period of the season one of the most important.

Recent results did not give the club confidence that those targets could be achieved under Rosenior. Dropped points, in 13 League matches, Chelsea has only managed 17 points, lost 6 games and won only 5. inconsistent performances, and a lack of momentum made it difficult for Chelsea to stay competitive with their direct rivals, losing to Manchester United, Manchester City and even recently Brighton, and in all this defeat, they never scored a single goal.

At a club of this size, slipping at this stage often forces quick decisions.

2. Performances Below Expected Standard

It was not just about results. The performances themselves raised concerns.

Chelsea struggled to control games, lacked sharpness in attack, and often looked vulnerable defensively.

Even in matches where they managed to get points, the overall display did not show a team with clear identity or direction, or even mirror a team that has in recent time won the Club World Cup and have been a beacon of respect amongst English teams.

For a club aiming to return to the top level, those signs are hard to ignore.

3. Need for Stability and Long-Term Direction

The club’s statement made it clear that this decision is also about the bigger picture.

Chelsea are trying to rebuild and need a stable, long-term solution in the dugout. Keeping a manager when there are doubts about his ability to deliver that vision can delay progress. By making the change now, the club gives itself time to reassess and find the right profile for the future.

With Calum McFarlane stepping in as interim head coach, the immediate focus will be on salvaging the season. At the same time, attention will already be shifting to who becomes the next permanent manager.
