3 reasons Hakimi will beat Osimhen and Salah to 2025 CAF Player of the Year

As the race for the 2025 CAF Men’s Player of the Year heats up, Achraf Hakimi has emerged as the frontrunner ahead of African heavyweights Victor Osimhen and Mohamed Salah.

While both Osimhen and Salah have delivered impressive performances over the past year, it is Hakimi’s combination of individual brilliance, leadership on the pitch, and historic achievements with club and country that could see him claim Africa’s most prestigious football honor.

Here are three key reasons why the Moroccan star is poised to outshine his illustrious rivals this year.

1. Pivotal Role in PSG’s Historic Champions League Triumph

Hakimi was instrumental in Paris Saint-Germain’s (PSG) first-ever UEFA Champions League victory, a commanding 5-0 win over Inter Milan in the final.

2. Outstanding Individual Performance and Recognition

In the 2024/25 Ligue 1 season, Hakimi demonstrated remarkable consistency and impact, recording 5 goals and 11 assists over 37 appearances.

His performances earned him the prestigious Prix Marc-Vivien Foé, awarded to the best African player in Ligue 1.

Hakimi’s dual-threat capability, contributing both offensively and defensively, sets him apart, highlighting his versatility and importance to his team’s dynamics.

3. Comparative Edge Over Osimhen and Salah

While Victor Osimhen and Mohamed Salah had commendable seasons, Hakimi’s achievements arguably have a broader impact.

Salah had an impressive 2024/25 Premier League season, contributing 47 goals and assists combined. However, Liverpool’s early exit from the Champions League diminished the European impact of his performances.

In contrast, Hakimi’s contributions were pivotal in PSG’s continental success, demonstrating his influence in both domestic and European competitions.
