France honours Olivier Giroud as all-time topscorer

The French Football Federation honoured the Olivier Giroud as its all-time topscorer on Sunday night.

Olivier Giroud was presented with a plaque with the number of appearances – 137 he had for the team.

He received the plaque alongside his wife Jennifer and four children in front of over 77,000 fans at the Stade de France Stadium in Saint-Dennis.

The striker was present as France beat Croatia on penalties to secure a semi-final place at the 2025 Euro Nations League where the former World Champions will take on Spain.

Olivier Giroud broke Thierry Henry’s record as France’s all-time topscorer after he scored against Poland in the round of sixteen of the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

The 38-year-old striker retired from the team after France’s 2-1 loss to Spain on the semi-finals of Euro 2024 where he came on as a substitute.

Olivier Giroud scored 57 goals in 137 matches for the French national team between 2011 and 2024.

Meanwhile Kylian Mbappe is on course to break Giroud’s record as the Real Madrid striker currently has 48 goals.
