3 reasons Bayern Munich can upset Inter Milan at Giuseppe Meazza

Inter Milan’s slim lead over Bayern Munich makes the second leg of their UEFA Champions League quarter-final tie at the Giuseppe Meazza one to look forward to. The Nerazzurri hold a 2-1 lead over the 2020 champions from the first leg and will look to consolidate on the result when they file out in front of their home fans on Wednesday night.

Meanwhile, Bayern Munich are on course to win a double this season, with the German Bundesliga almost in the bag, the Bavarians are leaving no stone unturned in their quest to win another European honour, which could be right in front of their home fans at the Allianz Arena – the venue they saw Chelsea lift their first-ever Champions League title in 2012 after losing to Manchester United in 2008.

Bayern Munich and Inter Milan go into the tie as favorites, given the history between both teams and how the first leg ended. The following factors indicate that Bayern Munich are capable of beating Inter Milan at the Giuseppe Meazza and qualifying for the last four.

1. Bayern Munich are unbeaten at the Giuseppe Meazza

Bayern Munich know how to play the Giuseppe Meazza just like their home turf – the Allianz Arena. The Bavarians are undefeated at Inter Milan’s home ground in the last four European meetings. Bayern Munich have won all four ties against Inter Milan at the Giuseppe Meazza – three wins in the UEFA Champions League and one in the Europa League. Bayern Munich are yet to concede against Inter Milan on the Nerazzurri’s home ground in their last three meetings in the competition. Vincent Kompany’s men can take a look at this and approach the game with a level of confidence.

2. Bayern’s attacking prowess

Inter Milan have a formidable defense, but Bayern Munich have a lethal attack nonetheless. Harry Kane is Bayern Munich’s top scorer in the competition with 10 goals in 12 matches, while French winger Michael Olise has five in 13 matches in his debut season in the competition. The Bavarians can also rely on the experience and versatility of their legend Thomas Müller. The legendary forward has 54 goals in the history of the competition. Muller scored Bayern’s only goal in the first leg and could start in place of the injured Jamal Musiala.

3. Kompany’s tactical adaptability

Bayern Munich’s coach, Vincent Kompany, given how his side dispatched Bayer Leverkusen en route to the quarter-finals, can set up his team to get the needed result. Bayern created more chances than Inter in the first leg with the absence of one of their most creative outlet, arguably Jamal Musiala. Instead, Kompany had Portuguese left-back Raphael Guerreiro play in his position, and the 31-year-old did quite well in the role. The Belgian coach prefers a 4-2-3-1 setup with two wide men on both sides of the pitch to stretch Inter Milan’s five-man off-the-ball defense line and a creative force just behind the lethal Harry Kane.
