Ashleigh Plumptre, a Super Falcons defender, has warned fans about a Facebook account in her name that promises cash giveaways to people.
Plumptre revealed that she has a personal Facebook account but rarely uses it, just like her X page. She added that there have been cases of where people use her name to say things on the platform.
The defender raised the alarm in a post-match reaction after the Super Falcons’ 3-0 win over Tunisia in their opening match of the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
There have been a lot of cases where people impersonate me, taking my name and saying things.
There’s a Facebook account that’s being taken down, but it is promising people money, and things like that and that’s just not true, she explained.
I have a personal Facebook account, but I don’t even use it. I made years ago, so I think if people were to follow me, I’m on Instagram, and I don’t use Twitter that much, but any Facebook account is not me.
Ashleigh Plumptre played the entire duration of the match as the nine-time champions started their mission of winning a record 10th title on a winning note.
The 27-year-old scored with a header from a corner just before half-time, but the video assistant referee allowed it after an infringement on the goalkeeper.
Plumptre is expected to play a key role as the Super Falcons look to reclaim their dominance in women’s football on the continent.
