Super Eagles midfielder Chrisantus Uche put out a fantastic performance as Getafe started the 2025/2026 La Liga season with not just a win, a victory on the road, but also a clean sheet.

The versatile midfielder was the most outstanding player on the pitch as he helped Getafe secure a convincing win over Celta Vigo at the Balaidos on Sunday afternoon.

Uche bagged a goal and provided an assist in the two-nil win over the home side to kick off the new season on a brilliant note.

The 22-year-old placed a sublime pass to Andrian Liso, who rifled the ball into the back of the net to give the visitors the lead two minutes after the resumption of the second half.

Chrisantus got on the scoresheet in the 72nd minute as he beat the offside trap and the goalkeeper afterwards before slotting the ball into the open net.

Uche’s goal secured maximum points for Getafe as he continued his impressive run of form for the Madrid-based club from last season.

His consistency earned him a spot in Eric Chelle’s Super Eagles in May as he featured in the Unity Cup triumph.

Christantus Uche scored the decisive penalty against Jamaica, which ensured that the Super Eagles retained their trophy.

He was also impressive in the one-all draw against Russia in June as he looks to cement his place in the national team.

Eric Chelle will look to bank on Uche’s run of form heading into next month’s crucial World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda in Uyo and South Africa in Bloemfontein.
