3 Things Learned From Manchester United’s 2-1 Win Over Chelsea

Manchester United’s crucial 2-1 victory over Chelsea was a match defined by drama and tactical decisions. In a fixture that saw both teams reduced to ten men, the outcome has provided a lifeline for Ruben Amorim while raising questions for Enzo Maresca.

1. Maresca should have attacked more

Chelsea’s prospects were heavily dampened just five minutes into the game when goalkeeper Robert Sánchez was sent off. Manager Enzo Maresca immediately removed his attacking players in a tactical response.

However, the second-half performance, which saw his side pull a goal back, suggests this reaction may have been too hasty. Chelsea showed they could still threaten with ten men, leaving many to wonder what they could have achieved with their attacking firepower still on the pitch.

2. A Turning Point for Ruben Amorim

This victory is a monumental boost for Ruben Amorim, who has been fighting to save his job after a dismal start to the season. The win, especially one secured in a chaotic and dramatic fashion, provides immense relief and could serve as a vital turning point.

It shows that even in adversity, Amorim’s team can dig deep and secure a result, which may be enough to restore confidence in his methods and earn him more time at Old Trafford.

3. The Red Devils Still Have Work to Do

Despite the vital win, Manchester United’s performance was not without its flaws. They struggled to put the game to bed despite playing against ten men for much of the first half, and a red card for Casemiro added unnecessary pressure.

The fact that the home side had to survive a late scare shows that their inconsistencies have not been completely resolved. While the result is a huge positive, the team’s performance highlighted that there is still a lot of work to be done.
