Arsenal have ended their twenty-year wait of not reaching the final of the Champions League after edging Atletico Madrid on Tuesday night.
Bukayo Saka’s rebound just before the break was enough as the Gunners reached the final of Europe’s premier club competition for the first time in two decades.
The English international pounced on a rebound in the box off Leandro Trossard’s shot and Jan Oblak’s save to send Mikel Arteta’s side into the final in Budapest.
Diego Simeone’s men played a defensive approach for part of the first half, limiting Arsenal’s chances in the final third while waiting to launch counterattacks.
However, the Spanish outfit made a couple of changes with Alex Baena, Thiago Almada and Alexander Sorloth coming into the game.
Alexander Sorloth miscued a chance to hit a shot on target late in the game but Atletico Madrid pushed for an equaliser.
Moments later, Marcus Llorente aimed at goal with a weak left-footed strike but David Raya dived to the ground to save the attempt.
The tie ended 1-0 at the Emirates but 2-1 on aggregate score the Gunners await the winner between defending champions PSG and Bayern Munich in the final.
