Nigeria’s Super Falcons kicked off their double-header against Senegal with a hard-fought 2-1 victory in an international friendly played in Ikenne on Friday.
The ten-time African champions delivered a strong first-half performance, scoring twice before the break to secure the win as preparations continue for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
Veteran forward Asisat Oshoala opened the scoring in the 32nd minute, finishing off perfectly from the spot to put Nigeria ahead. The Falcons doubled their advantage nine minutes later when Toni Payne found the back of the net in the 41st minute, giving the hosts a comfortable lead heading into halftime.
Senegal responded after the interval and pulled a goal back, setting up a tense finish. However, Nigeria remained composed defensively and held on to claim the victory.
The result extends the Super Falcons’ positive momentum as head coach Justin Madugu continues to assess his squad ahead of next year’s continental showpiece.
Both sides are expected to meet again in the second leg of the friendly series, with Nigeria aiming to build further confidence and cohesion before the start of their 2026 WAFCON campaign.
