AFCON 2025: Rwanda holds Nigeria to boring draw in 2nd group game

Nigeria were unable to break down Rwanda as they settled for a 0-0 draw. in an AFCON 2025 qualifier

The Super Eagles of Nigeria recorded a 0-0 draw away against the Amavubi of Rwanda in a 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier.

The Super Eagles were full of confidence after their 3-0 win against the Cheetahs of Benin Republic to start their qualification campaign.

Rwanda on the other hand finally welcomed home comfort after a 1-1 draw away against Libya in Tripoli.

The Rwandans playing in front of their home fans were on fire with support.

The Super Eagles of Nigeria played the Amavubi of Rwanda in an Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualification for 2025, ending in a scoreless tie.

The Super Eagles of Nigeria then recovered to pin back the home side and began dictating the play.

In the 23rd minute, Ademola Lookman scored but it was somehow ruled out by the match officials for a foul.

Upon review, the goal should have stood but there was no Video Assistant Referee (VAR) at the Amahoro Stadium in Kigali.

There was another chance to score for Nigeria but Victor Boniface would hit the post as the first half ended without a goal.

Nigeria were unable to break down Rwanda as they settled for a 0-0 draw in a 2025 AFCON qualifier

In the second half, interim coach Austin Eguavoen rang the changes introducing Victor Osimhen and Moses Simon in place of Samuel Chukuweze and Victor Boniface.

The Super Eagles began to press the issue but were unable to break down the Rwandan defensive block.

Raphael Onyedika and Frank Onyeka came on for Wilfred Ndidi and Fisayo Dele0 Bashiru to reenergize midfield.

The Rwandans defended stoutly and were able to hold on for a draw.
