Afrobasket: DTigress begin “five-peat” quest with blow out win over Rwanda

Nigeria’s senior women’s basketball team DTigress started their quest to win a fifth consecutive Women’s Afrobasket title with a massive win.

Rwanda were the victim as reigning champions recorded a 47-point difference win on Saturday afternoon.

Elizabeth Balogun led the team in points as scored 18 while Victoria Macaulay and Murjanatu Musa posted 13 and 12 points respectively.

Coach Rena Wakama’s ladies dominated each quarter by outscoring their opponents by at least 10 points.

After a seemingly slow start, the DTigress got into their rhythm in the last second and third quarter especially they made 60% of their 2-points attempts.

Nigeria forced their opponents to a handful of turnovers which resulted into 15 steals.

The defending champions wrapped the win in convincing fashion 92-45 as they maintain their unbeating run in the Afrobasket over the last five editions.

Nigeria will take on Mozambique in the second group match on Monday.
