Nigerian footballer and former national team captain, Ahmed Musa issued a heartfelt tribute to late former Nigerian president, Muhammadu Buhari on his official social media platforms.
Muhammadu Buhari died on Sunday, July 13, 2025, at approximately 4:30 pm UK time (15:30 GMT) in a London hospital after a prolonged illness. He was 82 years old.
Buhari served twice as Nigeria’s leader—as military head of state in the mid-1980s and later as democratically elected president from May 2015 to May 2023, becoming the first Nigerian opposition candidate to defeat an incumbent in a historic election.
Musa wrote: “Indeed, to Allah we belong and to Him we shall return. Allahu Akbar (God is Great), every living soul shall taste death.
I use this moment with deep sorrow to extend my condolences to the family and the entire people of this nation over the great loss of the former President Muhammadu Buhari, whom Allah has taken today, Sunday.…”
He also prayed: “May God have mercy on him and give us the strength to bear the loss. Amen.”
Buhari is to be laid to rest in his hometown of Daura, Katsina State, with Muslim funeral rites expected to take place on Tuesday, July 15, 2025.
