Nigerian forward Gift Monday has joined National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) expansion side Boston Legacy FC from Washington Spirit in a deal worth $500,000 in transfer threshold funds.
The two clubs announced the transaction on Thursday, October 8, 2026, with Washington Spirit also securing a 20 per cent sell-on clause should Boston Legacy FC subsequently trade or transfer the 24-year-old to another club.
Monday joined Washington Spirit in March 2025 from Spanish Liga F side UD Tenerife on a three-year contract running through 2027, with an option for the 2028 season.
During her time with the Washington-based club, the Super Falcons forward made 48 appearances across all competitions, scoring 12 goals and providing three assists.
She played an important role in the Spirit’s run to the NWSL Championship last season, scoring twice in the playoffs at Audi Field.
Monday also etched her name into the league’s history books in September 2025 when she scored a hat-trick in 35 minutes and 52 seconds from kick-off during a 4-0 victory over the Houston Dash. The performance set a record for the fastest hat-trick from kick-off in NWSL history and marked the first hat-trick ever recorded at Audi Field. The victory also secured Washington’s place in the playoffs.
Washington Spirit sporting director James Hocken praised the Nigerian’s contribution to the club and wished her well in the next chapter of her career.
“Since arriving, Monday has been a valuable contributor in our attacking third and played an integral role in helping this club reach the NWSL Championship last season. We wish her nothing but continued success in the next stage of her career,” Hocken said.
Boston Legacy FC general manager Domè Guasch expressed confidence that the forward would strengthen the club’s attacking options ahead of its continued development in the league.
“Gift brings a unique set of qualities as a forward that will add another dimension to our attack. She will contribute to our high press, create opportunities and be dangerous in the final third,” Guasch said.
He added that Monday’s ability to work for the team was equally important to the club, describing her as a player whose collective qualities matched her individual talent.
Monday also expressed her delight at joining the expansion side, saying she was “very happy and honored” to become part of the club.
Before moving to the United States, the Nigerian spent two and a half seasons at UD Tenerife, recording more than 65 appearances and 26 goal contributions. She began her senior career in Nigeria with FC Robo and COD United Amazons.
At international level, Monday has represented the Super Falcons since 2019 and was part of Nigeria’s squad at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup. She was also recently called up for the Super Falcons’ Olympic qualifying fixtures against Comoros.
Boston Legacy FC, one of the NWSL’s newest expansion teams, is competing in its inaugural 2026 season under head coach Filipa Patão. Monday’s arrival is expected to add pace, pressing intensity and goal-scoring quality to the club’s attacking options as it continues to establish itself in the league.
