Nigerian players were active across Europe’s top leagues over the weekend, with Akor Adams goal from the spot, and Moses Simon making his 40th assist in the Italian League 1
In Spain, Akor Adams was on target from the penalty spot to help Sevilla FC secure a hard-earned home victory over Atlético Madrid. His composure from 12 yards proved decisive in a tightly contested encounter. Fellow Nigerian Ademola Lookman also featured, coming on in the second half to add energy and attacking intent as Sevilla held on for the win.
In England, Bright Osayi-Samuel delivered a solid defensive display for Birmingham City, helping his side keep a clean sheet in a home victory over Wrexham. Wrexham’s Nigerian goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo was unable to prevent the defeat despite his efforts.
At the City Ground, Ola Aina impressed with a composed performance as Nottingham Forest battled to a draw against Aston Villa in the English Premier League. His defensive awareness and ability to drive forward stood out in an evenly matched contest.
It was, however, a difficult outing for some Nigerian stars at Anfield. Calvin Bassey, Alex Iwobi, and Samuel Chukwueze; who made a brief appearance; were all involved as Fulham fell to a league defeat against Liverpool
In Italy, Maduka Okoye delivered one of the standout performances of the weekend. The goalkeeper made a series of fine saves to help Udinese Calcio secure an impressive away victory and a clean sheet against AC Milan.
Elsewhere, Ryan Alebiosu provided an assist for Blackburn Rovers in their away draw against Stoke City F.C., continuing his steady contributions in the Championship.
In France, Moses Simon was influential once again, setting up the opening goal for Paris FC in a notable home victory over AS Monaco FC. His creativity and experience proved key in breaking down a strong Monaco side.
