Akor Adams opened his Serie A account for Venezia on Friday night, unfortunately his maiden goal for the club was not enough to prevent a 4-2 home defeat to Fiorentina at the Stadio Pier Luigi Penzo.
The Super Eagles striker put the home side ahead against the run of play in the 22nd minute, collecting the ball on the right side of the box and finishing first time into the far corner. Fiorentina had dominated the early exchanges, creating several chances through Beto, Franco Mastantuono, Alex Jimenez and Cher Ndour, before Adams punished a rare lapse in their defense.
Venezia’s lead lasted barely seven minutes. Argentine winger Mastantuono equalised in the 29th minute and struck again moments later to turn the game around, completing a stunning individual response that would define the contest.
Mateo Pellegrino extended Fiorentina’s advantage in the 66th minute, before Mastantuono completed his hat-trick six minutes from time to make it 4-1. Antoine Hainaut pulled one back for Venezia in the 87th minute, but the goal amounted to nothing more than a consolation.
Adams’s breakthrough ends a three-match wait in the league. The 26-year-old had drawn a blank against Lecce, AC Milan and Frosinone since completing his summer move from Sevilla, despite scoring twice on his competitive debut in the Coppa Italia.
Across all competitions this season, Adams now has three goals and an assist in six appearances for Venezia, who signed him for a reported club-record fee after his impressive 2025/26 campaign in Spain.
The defeat leaves Venezia bottom of the Serie A table, still searching for their first points of the new campaign.
