In a dramatic Saudi Pro League encounter on Wednesday night, Al-Ittihad orchestrated a remarkable comeback to defeat Al-Nassr 3-2, thanks to a stoppage-time goal from Houssem Aouar.
The match, held at Al-Awwal Park, saw Al-Nassr take an early lead with Sadio Mane scoring in the 3rd minute. Mane then assisted Ayman Yahya for a second goal in the 37th minute, confirmed after a VAR review.
Al-Ittihad responded in the second half, with Karim Benzema narrowing the gap with a header in the 49th minute. N’Golo Kante equalized after a swift counter-attack.
As the match seemed destined for a draw, Houssem Aouar scored the winning goal in stoppage time following a cross from Moussa Diaby.
The victory elevated Al-Ittihad to 71 points, six ahead of Al-Hilal with four matches remaining, positioning them well to achieve a domestic double, having already reached the King Cup final.
Meanwhile, the defeat for Cristiano Ronaldo’s Al-Nassr, who sit fourth with 60 points, dealt a blow to their hopes of qualifying for the elite tier of the AFC Champions League, especially as only two league spots are available following Al-Ahli’s recent continental triumph.
