Former President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Amaju Pinnick lost his re-election into the FIFA Council.
The FIFA Council is the highest decision-making body of the world football governing body in the intervals of the FIFA congress.
Amaju Pinnick lost his re-election by a single vote during the election which took place during CAF’s 14th extraordinary general assembly on Wednesday in Cairo, Egypt.
Pinnick scored 28 points but failed to secure one of the six spots available for members from the Confederation of African Football.
Elected members from CAF include Hamidou Djibrilla of Niger, Egypt’s Hani Abo Rida, Faouzi Lekjaa of Morocco, Mauritania’s Ahmed Yahya, Kanizat Ibrahim of Comoros, and Djibouti’s Souleiman Waberi.
The FIFA Council, formerly known as the FIFA Executive Council, comprises 37 members elected by the FIFA Congress for a four-term renewable tenure.
Amaju Pinnick was first elected into the FIFA Council at the 43rd CAF Ordinary General Assembly in Rabat, Morocco, in 2021.
He’s the third Nigerian to be elected to the council after Amos Adamu and Oyo Orok Oyo.
Amaju Pinnick is a two-time president of the Nigeria Football Federation.
