Arsenal Women came from a goal down to claim an important win in the first leg of the UEFA Women’s Champions League over Lyon at the Emirates Stadium.
The defending champions scored twice in the second half to seal a 2-1 win over the visitors ahead of the second leg next week.
Arsenal came into the game on the back of a 2-0 loss to Brighton and Hove Albion in the Women’s FA Cup quarter-finals.
Lyon were on a three-game winning run and started the game on a positive note as Jule Brand put the visitors ahead.
Despite conceding first, the hosts were dominant as they created attempts on goal leading up to the end of the first half.
Lyon succumbed to pressure just before the hour mark as Ingrid Engen put the ball into her net to give Arsenal the equaliser.
The hosts sustained the momentum and pushed for the win with more goal attempts.
Canadian midfielder Olivia Smith capitalised on a defensive error to grab the winner with seven minutes to go in regular time.
Arsenal remain on course to retain their title with two matches left potentially.
