Arsenal’s title charge threatened as Bournemouth picks maximum points at the Emirates

It was a day of angst and anguish for Arsenal as they suffered a setback in the pursuit of their first Premier League title in over two decades.

The Gunners went into the lunchtime kick-off against the Cherries with the hope of increasing the gap at the top of the table over Manchester City.

However, Arsenal were below par on the afternoon as Bournemouth recorded back-to-back wins at the Emirates.

Junior Eli Kroupi put the Cherries ahead after 17 minutes with just a tap-in after a rebound fell to him in the box to register his 10th goal of the season.

The lead lasted a while until Max Christie handled the ball in the box which led to a penalty for the host in the 35th minute.

Viktor Gyokores stepped up and brilliantly converted the penalty to restore parity as the first half ended a goal apiece.

The Swedish striker doubled the lead for the Gunners after the hour mark but his goal was ruled offside.

Following a brilliant interchange of play around Arsenal’s goal area, Alex Scott picked up a pass from Evanilson and buried the ball into the left corner of the net to put the Cherries back ahead.

The Gunners hoofed and puffed but couldn’t get the equaliser as Bournemouth sealed a 2-1 to put Arsenal’s title charge under threat with eight matches left.

Despite the loss, Arsenal remains at the top of the log with 70 points, while Manchester City are in second with 61 points with a game in hand.

The Cityzens face a tie on Sunday as they take on Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
