Aston Villa suffered a 1-0 defeat against AS Monaco in their UEFA Champions League clash at Stade Louis II, dealing a blow to their hopes of securing a place in the knockout rounds.

The decisive goal came in the 8th minute when Wilfried Singo capitalized on a rebound after Emiliano Martínez parried Thilo Kehrer’s initial header from a corner.

Despite enjoying greater possession, Villa struggled to penetrate Monaco’s resolute defense. Goalkeeper Radoslaw Majecki was instrumental for the hosts, making crucial saves to deny efforts from Leon Bailey and Ollie Watkins.

Unai Emery introduced Jhon Durán in the second half to bolster the attack, but the Villans couldn’t find an equalizer.

Aston Villa, previously unbeaten in five matches, are in ninth place, also with 13 points .
