Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has revealed that centre-back Wesley Fofana could be sidelined for over a month due to a hamstring injury.
Fofana suffered the injury during Chelsea’s 3-0 Premier League win over Aston Villa on Sunday.
Maresca confirmed the extent of the injury, saying:
“Unfortunately, it’s bad news. It’s a hamstring problem. These kinds of things require at least three, four, five weeks.”
Fofana’s absence will be deeply felt, given his impressive form before the injury. Maresca acknowledged the loss, saying:
“In the way he was playing, it’s a big loss for us but we have more players and we’ll try to find solutions.”
This is not the first time Fofana has faced a lengthy injury layoff, having missed the entirety of last season due to injury.
The Blues return to action on Wednesday as they travel to St. Mary’s Stadium to take on relegation-threatened Southampton.
