Nigerian goal-machine Victor Osimhen has paid tribute to the late Rashidi Yekini, hailing him as the greatest striker in Super Eagles history.
After recently tying with Segun Odegbami for second place on Nigeria’s all-time scorers list, Osimhen reflected on Yekini’s enduring legacy.
“This record stood for a very long time and still stands,” Osimhen said in a social media video.
“So, we should give that man his flowers and celebrate him.”
Osimhen’s heartfelt call to action comes after his 23rd goal for Nigeria in the AFCON 2025 qualifier against Benin Republic, which secured a crucial point and tied him with Odegbami.
However, Osimhen acknowledges the significant gap between himself and Yekini’s impressive tally of 37 goals. He humbly emphasized:
“I’m not after any records, so let us celebrate Yekini’s achievements and give him his flowers.”
