Barcelona have revealed that the Catalan club has received official approval from LaLiga, allowing their new goalkeeper Joan García to be registered for the 2025/26 season, thanks to captain Marc-André ter Stegen’s long-term injury status.
This recent update helps ease the club’s salary cap constraints and enables the registration of more players without violating financial fair play rules.
It’s worth noting that the duration of Ter Stegen’s injury recently sparked a disagreement between the goalkeeper and Barcelona over the past few weeks.
Initially, the German international hesitated to sign the medical report required by Hansi Flick’s team for submission to LaLiga. Ter Stegen stated that his recovery from lower back surgery, performed in July, would take approximately three months.
However, Barcelona estimated a longer recovery timeline and have now officially placed the 33-year-old on the long-term injury list, opening the door for García’s inclusion.
Barceloan begin their season on Saturday against Mallorca as they look to defend their LaLiga crown.
