Sunday Ndidi, the father of Super Eagles midfielder and captain Wilfred Ndidi, has tragically passed away in a fatal car accident.

According to reports, the unfortunate incident happened in Delta State on Tuesday morning, January 27, in the Umunede area of Delta. He was then rushed to a hospital in Agbor, where he eventually gave up the ghost.

The tragic incident comes less than two weeks after Wilfred Ndidi helped the Super Eagles to a third-place finish at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

Ndidi dedicated his first goal for the Super the Eagles to his dad in the 3-2 win over Tunisia during the Group phase of the tournament.

“I did it for my dad,” the midfielder told reporters in a post-match interview.

“I did it for my dad.”

These were the words of Super Eagles’ captain Wilfred Ndidi🇳🇬 when he scored his first ever goal for Nigeria at the just concluded AFCON.

That was the first thing that came to my mind when I heard about his father passing.🥹🤍
