Femi Azeez had an amazing breakout season and has been rewarded for his impressive showing with Milawall. The Nigerian forward was included in the PFA Championship Team of the Year for 2025/26. The Super Eagles winger received the honour at the 53rd annual Professional Footballers’ Association Awards, held at the Manchester Opera House on Tuesday evening, where the division’s standout performers were celebrated in front of their peers.
Azeez’s selection reflects a productive campaign in which he became one of Millwall’s most important attacking players. He scored 11 goals and provided eight assists in 37 Championship appearances, numbers that made him a constant threat as the Lions pushed for a return to the Premier League. His consistency throughout the season stood out in a division where few players sustained that level of output from start to finish.
Millwall’s campaign ultimately fell short at the final hurdle. Alex Neil’s side reached the play-off semi-finals before losing to Hull City, who went on to secure promotion. Azeez was not the only Lions player recognised, as teammate Tristan Crama also earned a place in the Team of the Year, underlining the quality Millwall produced across the season even as their top-flight return eluded them.
The award places Azeez alongside a strong group of Championship performers. He joins Coventry City’s Carl Rushworth, Milan van Ewijk, Bobby Thomas, Matt Grimes and Jack Rudoni, as well as Southampton’s Taylor Harwood-Bellis, Middlesbrough’s Hayden Hackney, and forwards Žan Vipotnik of Swansea City and Haji Wright of Coventry City. Hackney claimed the individual honour, winning the Championship Players’ Player of the Year award ahead of nominees including Rushworth and Grimes.
Azeez’s form for Millwall has already opened a new chapter in his career at international level. He earned a maiden call-up to the Super Eagles under head coach Eric Chelle and marked his debut in style, scoring twice against Zimbabwe as Nigeria won the Unity Cup fixture 2-0. The forward’s rapid transition from Championship performer to international scorer has made him one of the more eye-catching additions to Chelle’s squad in recent months.
Millwall have carried that momentum into the new season. The club began their 2026/27 campaign with victories over Bristol City and Norwich in the Championship, following an EFL Cup win against QPR. Azeez will be expected to remain central to the Lions’ attack as they look to go one step further than last season’s play-off run.
