Trabzonspor’s medical team has confirmed that Nigerian defensive sensation Chibuike Nwaiwu has sustained a muscle injury, stalling the momentum of one of the Süper Lig’s most in-form players.
The club released an official medical bulletin late Monday following clinical examinations and an MRI scan conducted at the Acıbadem Maslak Hospital.
The Diagnosis
According to the Chairman of the Trabzonspor Health Committee, Prof. Dr. Ahmet Beşir, Nwaiwu is suffering from bleeding (hematoma) and significant edema in the inner thigh muscle group of his left leg.
The injury occurred during the closing stages of Trabzonspor’s 3-1 victory over Fatih Karagümrük last Friday. While the 23-year-old was the hero of the night; netting a rare and clinical brace he was forced off in the 73rd minute after signaling to the bench following a defensive sprint.
Following the examination and MRI scan of our player Chibuike Nwaiwu, who was injured and left the game during the Fatih Karagümrük match in the 24th week of the Trendyol Süper Lig Mehmet Ali Yılmaz Season, bleeding and edema were detected in the inner thigh muscle group of his left leg. Treatment for our player has been started by our medical team
The timing could not be worse for either club or player. Since his January move from Austrian side Wolfsberger AC, Nwaiwu has become an undisputed starter for the Black Sea Storm, providing a physical presence in the backline that has seen Trabzonspor climb the table.
Beyond club duties, the injury casts a shadow over his international ambitions. Following his recent goal-scoring exploits, Nwaiwu was widely tipped to receive his first senior call-up to the Super Eagles for the upcoming international break.
Nwaiwu is expected to miss at least the next two league fixtures, leaving manager Abdullah Avcı with a significant tactical hole to fill in the heart of the defense.
