The victory lifted Frankfurt to third place, with a five-point cushion over Borussia Mönchengladbach.
Gladbach moved above Leipzig to fifth with a 1-0 win, courtesy of Alassane Plea’s header. Leipzig can drop to seventh if Freiburg gets a point against Union Berlin on Sunday.

Heidenheim boosted its survival hopes with a 1-0 win at Wolfsburg, while Werder Bremen secured a 3-0 victory at bottom side Holstein Kiel.
Defending champion Bayer Leverkusen had temporarily cut Bayern’s lead to three points with a 3-1 win over Bochum on Friday, and will need to keep pushing until the end.
