The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has revealed the voting patterns of the recently-concluded CAF Awards in Morocco, and the report showed how former Nigerian forward Daniel Amokachi and Nigerian journalist Samuel Ahmedu voted for the nominees.

Daniel Amokachi, a member of CAF’s Technical Study Group, voted Victor Osimhen in fifth place in the Men’s Footballer of the Year category.

Morocco’s captain, Achraf Hakimi, won the award ahead of Mohammed Salah and Victor Osimhen after a remarkable season with Paris Saint-Germain last season.

Victor Osimhen finished third after a fantastic season with Galatasaray, leading the Turkish giants to a domestic treble.

FIFA and CAF-accredited journalist with a focus on women’s football on the continent, Samuel Ahmadu voted Rasheedat Ajibade and Esther Okoronkwo as third and fifth, respectively, in the CAF Women’s Footballer of the Year category despite the performance of the latter in the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, where she scored two goals and registered six assists in six matches.

Esther Okoronkwo scored and provided two assists in the final as the Super Falcons came from two goals down to claim a 3-2 win over the Atlas Lionesses in the final.

However, Ahmadu voted for Zambia’s Barbra Banda and Temwa Chawinga as his top two nominees.

In the Women’s Goalkeeper of the Year category, Samuel Ahmadu voted eventual winner Chiamaka Nnadozie fifth despite winning the Golden Glove at the tournament.

The voting patterns of Daniel Amokachi and Samuel Ahmadu stirred reactions online after CAF released how coaches, captains, media representatives, and members of the technical group voted during the awards.
