Champions League: Aston Villa smash Club Brugge to take big advantage to Villa Park

Aston Villa are in a good position to qualify for the quarter-finals of the Champions League after thrashing Club Brugge away from home.

The Villans recorded an impressive 3-1 victory courtesy of Leon Bailey’s opener, an own goal and  Marco Asencio’s penalty.

Leon Bailey gave Aston Villa an early lead after Tyronne Mings headed thw ball from a corner-kick towards his direction.

The winger, left unmarked in the box, calmly slotted the ball into the back of the net.

Aston Villa’a lead only lasted nine minutes as Maxim De Cuyper equalized for the home side with a simple finish.

Emiliano Martinez pulled off a sublime save to deny the home side from taking the lead as he thwarted Chemsdine Talib’s effort towards goal.

Marco Asencio came close to giving Aston Villa the lead in the 68th minute but Simon Mignolet denied the Spaniard.

Unfortunately, Brandon Mechele put the ball inside his goalkeeper’s net in attempt to claer a cross as he put the visitors ahead.

Marco Asencio put the game from Club Brugge’s reach as he converted a penalty in the 88th minute to give Aston Villa a 3-1 lead.

Unai Emery’s men saw off the match as they head to Villa Park with big advantage ahead of the return leg.
