Cristiano Ronaldo has fired back at his former Real Madrid teammate Rafael van der Vaart after the Dutchman labeled him “selfish” in a recent interview.
The pair were teammates at Real Madrid, overlapping for just a solitary campaign in 2009. The former Dutch international has since opened up about what it was like playing with CR7.
Van der Vaart revealed that Ronaldo’s main motivation was to score goals, regardless of the end result.
“Ronaldo was unbelievably selfish. If we won 6-0 and he did not score, he was not happy. When we lose but he scores twice, it’d be alright.”
Ronaldo responded to the criticism with a scathing comment, asking
“Who is this guy?” after Van der Vaart’s quotes were shared on a Portuguese Instagram account.
Despite Van der Vaart’s comments, Ronaldo’s dedication and drive undoubtedly contributed to Real Madrid’s success during his time at the club, with four Champions League titles and huge success over a 10-year spell.
