Former Super Eagles captain, Mikel Obi, has called on the Nigerian government to dissolve the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) if the national team fails to qualify for the 2026 World Cup.
The Super Eagles’ chances of reaching the tournament are now slim after they were held to a draw by South Africa in a crucial Group C qualifying match.

The result leaves Nigeria’s senior team in third place on the table, six points behind Bafana Bafana with only two matches remaining.
Mikel believes the country’s struggles are a direct result of the football body’s inability to manage its affairs effectively.
“If Nigeria doesn’t qualify for the World Cup, the entire NFF board has to go… It’s unacceptable,” the former Chelsea star stated on his podcast, The Obi One Podcast.
“We didn’t qualify for Qatar — the last World Cup — and now it looks like again we are not going to make it. Honestly, I have nothing to say about it.”
The Super Eagles must now win their final two games, against Lesotho and Benin, while praying that at least 5 other teams drop points in their final matches, to even stand a chance of making it to the playoffs.
