Doku pays courtesy visit to Ghanaian traditional ruler

Manchester City and Belgium winger, Jérémy Doku, who was born in Belgium to Ghanaian parents, recently visited Ghana for a short cultural and charitable trip.

On July 12, 2025, he arrived in Accra and engaged in a series of personal and community-focused activities .

A key stop on his itinerary was the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi, where he paid a courtesy visit to Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II. He was accompanied by members of his family, including his parents and siblings.

The traditional ruler welcomed him warmly, blessing him in accordance with Ashanti customs .

In Madina, a suburb of Accra, Doku visited his family home and reconnect­ed with relatives and neighbours. He also organised a local football event called the “Jeremy Doku Cup” to inspire and support budding talent in the community.

He joined in a friendly game on a dusty pitch, showcasing his skills and performing tricks thrilling local youth with his presence and enthusiasm .

The visit underscored his commitment to staying connected with his Ghanaian heritage. Fluent in Twi, he has previously spoken of how the culture, music, dance, and cuisine have shaped his identity.

Though he represents Belgium internationally, Doku has expressed his desire to visit Ghana more regularly and to leverage his platform to support local initiatives through football and philanthropy .

Doku will return to Manchester next week to prepare with the club for the upcoming 2025-26 season.
