Nigeria’s senior women’s basketball team, the DTigress, are now among the top 10 best teams in the world according to the latest FIBA world ranking.
The reigning African champions made the historic leap from 11th to 8th as they broke into the top 10 for the first time.
Nigeria, the seven-time Women’s Afrobasket champion, leaped over Serbia, Brazil, and Japan to become the 8th best team in the world.
The DTigress’ latest achievements come after a record fifth consecutive Women’s AfroBasket Championship victory last week.
Coach Rena Wakama led Nigeria to the feat in Côte d’Ivoire with a 78-64 victory over Mali.
The DTigress secured an automatic qualification spot to the FIBA Women’s World Cup next year as African champions.
