Nigeria’s women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, made history tonight by defeating Mali 78–64 to claim their fifth consecutive FIBA Women’s AfroBasket title at the Palais des Sports de Treichville in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire.
The win cements their status as the dominant force in African women’s basketball and extends their unbeaten run in the tournament to 29 games, a streak dating back to 2015.
The game was tightly contested in the first half but D’Tigress showed their trademark composure after the break, pulling away in the third quarter and controlling the final stretch.
Led by head coach Rena Wakama, Nigeria have now won AfroBasket titles in 2017, 2019, 2021, 2023, and 2025—an unprecedented run in the competition’s history.
The triumph not only adds to D’Tigress’ legacy but also secures them a place in the qualifying tournaments for the 2026 Women’s Basketball World Cup, where they will aim to carry their continental dominance onto the global stage.
