One of the standout performers in Arsenal’s 1-1 draw against Brighton on Saturday night was 17-year-old Ethan Nwaneri, who continues to make giant strides in his burgeoning career.

The talented teenager became only the sixth player to score more than once in the Premier League before turning 18, having also scored in November’s 3-0 win over Nottingham Forest.

Nwaneri cut in from the right wing to beat Bart Verbruggen with a low shot to break the deadlock after just 16 minutes.

Here are 5 things to know about Ethan Nwanneri

At just nine years old, he joined Arsenal’s academy, quickly making a name for himself. By 14, Nwaneri was already playing for the club’s under-18 side, primarily as a midfielder.

Club Career and Rise to Prominence

Nwaneri began the 2022-23 season with Arsenal’s under-18s but quickly progressed to the under-21 side. His rapid rise continued when, at just 15 years and 181 days, Nwaneri made his Premier League debut on 18 September 2022, coming off the bench against Brentford.

In doing so, he became the youngest player ever to appear in the Premier League, breaking the previous record held by Harvey Elliott.

Style of Play

A versatile and attack-minded midfielder, Nwaneri is known for his creativity and skill on the ball. He has been described as a player who can operate effectively as a “number 10” but is comfortable in various attacking roles.

His ability to dribble and contribute defensively makes him a valuable asset, whether playing centrally or in wide positions.

International Career

Nwaneri’s talents have not gone unnoticed on the international stage. He has represented England at various youth levels, including the 2023 UEFA European Under-17 Championship and the 2023 FIFA U-17 World Cup.

Nwaneri was also called up for the 2024 UEFA European Under-17 Championship, where he continued his strong form. Although he is eligible to represent Nigeria, it is doubtful that he will switch allegiances.

Record Breaker and One to Watch

After coming on against Brentford, Nwaneri surpassed Cesc Fabregas as Arsenal’s youngest-ever player. He also became the Premier League’s youngest player, beating Liverpool’s Harvey Elliott.

With his talent and maturity, Ethan Nwaneri is undoubtedly one to watch as his football journey continues at Arsenal and beyond.
