Former Arsenal and Spain midfielder Cesc Fàbregas has confirmed that he will remain as head coach of Como 1907, putting an end to speculation linking him with a move to some of Europe’s biggest clubs.
Fàbregas made the announcement after guiding Como to a historic fourth-place finish in Serie A, securing qualification for the UEFA Champions League for the first time in the club’s history.
The Spaniard had reportedly attracted interest from several top sides, including Chelsea FC, following Como’s remarkable rise in Italian football. However, he insisted his focus remains on continuing the long-term project at the club.
Speaking to Sky Sport, Fàbregas revealed that he recently held discussions with the club’s hierarchy about the future.
“Future? We had a long meeting at 2pm with the president and the director,” he said. “We have consolidated the idea; the vision is already on the next season. I am thrilled here; as you know, I am missing a step or two more, and I am learning a lot. We are creating a mentality.”
The 39-year-old admitted Como’s rapid development has brought new expectations but stressed the club remains focused on steady progress.
“The growth of this club has been too fast; since we started it, it has been two and a half years that we have been pushing expectations,” he added. “We are aware of what we are; we have a clear vision. A masterpiece, but from today we start to prepare for a tough and different season.”
Fàbregas has played a key role in Como’s transformation in recent years, helping the club rise from Italy’s fourth division to become one of the biggest surprises in European football.
Since arriving first as a player before moving into management, the former FC Barcelona and Arsenal FC midfielder has overseen a project built on youth development and smart recruitment.
He has also helped attract emerging talents such as Nico Paz and Ramón from Real Madrid Castilla as Como prepare for their first-ever Champions League campaign.
With Fàbregas now confirming his commitment, Como will look to continue their extraordinary rise under one of football’s most unlikely managerial success stories.
