Gernot Rohr reveals why Bayern Munich’s Michael Olise refused to play for Super Eagles

Former Super Eagles manager Eric Chelle has revealed why Bayern Munich and French Star, Michael Olise, didn’t choose to play for the Super Eagles of Nigeria ahead of Algeria, France, and England.

Michael Olise had the choice to play for either Nigeria, France, Algeria, or England, but the winger chose France and has been an integral part of Didier Deschamps team since he made his debut on 29 August 2024 against Italy in a UEFA Nations League match.

Gernot Rohr, in a recent interview, revealed that he tried to invite the 24-year-old to the Super Eagles but he didn’t show interest in playing for the three-time African champions.

According to Rohr, Michael Olise opted not to play for Nigeria because he probably knew he had the option of playing for a top team in the future, given his talent, which turned out to be true.

“In 2019, I saw this player and I had a look on him with my assistant, Tunde. We went to watch a match and we tried to invite him but he did not want to join us at the time. “Because I think he already knew he can have a big future in an European team and can play for several countries, of course. “And this player, six or seven years ago when we saw him he was so strong. Unfortunately, he refused to play for Nigeria.”

Michael Olise is arguably the best right winger in the world at the moment having impressed with Bayern Muich in his second season for the Bavarian Giants with two Bundesliga titles already.

Didier Deschamps will rely on Michael Olise’s prowess in front of goal and creativity as France look to clinch their third FIFA World Cup title this summer.
