Nigeria’s Super Eagles’ record at the FIFA World Cup is on the verge of being shattered by either Morocco or Ghana.
The Super Eagles are not participating in the ongoing tournament in the United States, Canada and Mexico but have a record to protect pre-tournament.
Nigeria held the record for most wins by an African team at the World Cup – six the last being a 2-0 win over Iceland at the 2018 tournament in Russia.
Ahmed Musa bagged a brace in the second group stage match in Volgograd as the Super Eagles extended their wins to six.
However, the record has now been equalled and it’s on the verge of being broken by Morocco or Ghana after both teams recorded their sixth wins respectively.
Ghana secured a 1-0 win over Panama to kickstart their campaign on Thursday while Morocco secured their first win of the tournament with a similar scoreline over Scotland on Saturday morning after their opening 1-1 draw against Brazil.
One of Morocco or Ghana could break the record on or before the conclusion of the group stage matches.
Ghana’s Black Stars will take on England and Croatia in their remaining matches in the group stage while Morocco will take on Haiti in their last group fixture.
