Former Manchester United midfielder Nicky Butt has revealed why the club must pursue a move for Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen this summer, claiming that the 27-year-old will elevate the game of the young 22-year-old striker Benjamin Sesko.
Butt claims the Slovenian striker won’t be ready to lead the line for Manchester United for two or three years.
The former English international added that the club needs to sign a striker who scores all types of goals instead of signing players with “potential” which often doesn’t work out.
Nicky Butt admitted that Osimhen doesn’t have Premier League experience but his attributes fit the way the league is played.
I don’t think he [Šeško] needs replacing, but someone better than him who can also lift his game.”
“I think he’d [Osimhen] be the one…he’s powerful and quick, he can run in behind, he has a good touch, can score all kinds of goals, and he’s good in the air. It’s a difficult job to recruit players and maybe you go and find someone with potential but United keep doing that and it doesn’t quite work.”
“Šeško might be ready in two or three years but not right now and definitely not in the Champions League. I know Osimhen isn’t proven in the Premier League but you look at his physicality and the way he plays football, he can definitely handle it.”
Victor Osimhen is arguably one of the best strikers in the world over the last three seasons and was linked to a move the Premier League last summer before rejoining Galatasaray after an impressive loan spell where he led the team to their 25th league title last season.
The former Napoli striker is reportedly eyeing a move that will see him return to the Serie A with Juventus tipped as favourite to sign the Nigerian striker.
Osimhen helped Napoli win its first Scudetto in over three decades in 2023 and won the prestigious cappocanoiere as well with 26 goals.
