Grifo saves Freiburg late as Hoffenheim hit St. Pauli for three

Freiburg battled back late to rescue a 2–2 draw against Eintracht Frankfurt, while Hoffenheim cruised to a convincing 3–0 win over struggling St. Pauli in Sunday’s Bundesliga fixtures.

At the Europa-Park Stadion, Freiburg struck almost immediately when Derry Scherhant punished a loose Frankfurt pass to score in the 2nd minute. The visitors responded through Jonathan Burkardt, who levelled with a tidy finish after 18 minutes and then put Frankfurt ahead just before the break with his second of the game.

Frankfurt looked set to leave with all three points, but Freiburg refused to fold. Substitute Vincenzo Grifo stepped up in the 87th minute and curled a superb free-kick into the top corner to earn Christian Streich’s side a deserved point. Frankfurt will lament their missed chances and the late lapse that cost them a valuable win.

In Hamburg, Hoffenheim produced a dominant second-half display to brush aside St. Pauli. After a quiet first half, 19-year-old Bazoumana Touré opened the scoring in the 54th minute with a composed finish.

Five minutes later, Andrej Kramarić doubled the lead, capitalising on hesitant defending to continue his strong scoring form. Grischa Prömel then came off the bench to add a third in the 79th minute, finishing off a swift counter-attack.

St. Pauli offered little threat going forward and were repeatedly exposed after the interval, while Hoffenheim’s control and clinical edge ensured a comfortable victory and a welcome boost in the table.
