Guardiola confirms double injury blow after Man City’s late win over Wolves

Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City pulled off a thrilling 2-1 comeback win at Wolves, but the champions had to do so without a number of key players.

Wolves took an early lead through Jorgen Strand Larsen’s strike, but City equalized courtesy of Joško Gvardiol. Just when it seemed the match would end level, John Stones snatched a dramatic 95th-minute winner.

However, Guardiola’s post-match euphoria was tempered by injury concerns. He sounded pessimistic when quizzed about Kyle Walker and Kevin De Bruyne’s availability for Wednesday’s Champions League clash against Sparta Praha.

“I don’t think they will be ready [for midweek against Sparta Praha in the Champions League.

“We have a few days of training but I don’t think so.”

The win sent City to second place in the Premier League, hot on the heels of leaders Liverpool. Despite the injuries, Guardiola’s men are gathering momentum.

“We showed incredible character to come from behind and win,” Guardiola said.

“Now we focus on getting everyone fit and ready for the challenges ahead.”
