Heavyweights set for FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup semifinals

North Korea, Japan, the United States, and the Netherlands qualify for FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup semifinals

The four countries who have qualified for the semi-final stage of the 2024 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Colombia have been confirmed.

North Korea, Japan, the United States, and the Netherlands are the four nations.

This comes after some of the quarterfinal matches that were played on Sunday night and early on Monday morning.

North Korea 1-0 Brazil

With the game’s lone goal, scored early in the second half by Chae Un-yong, North Korea defeated Brazil to book a place in the last four.

Netherlands beat Colombia on penalties

Karla Torres’ goals were cancelled out by Fleur Stoit and Inske Weiman as the Netherlands twice overcame a deficit against their hosts, Colombia.

The extra thirty minutes proved fruitless as the Netherlands converted three penalties in the shoot-out while Colombia failed on as many to settle the game.

Japan won 1-0 against Spain

2022 runner-up Japan defeated the defending champions Spain with a single goal in extra time, thanks to a goal by Hiromi Yoneda in the 102nd minute.

USA beat Germany on penalties

After the game ended in a 2-2 draw, the United States defeated Germany 3-1 on penalties.

North Korea, Japan, the United States, and the Netherlands qualify for FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup semifinals

Germany lost heartbreakingly, having let a 2-0 lead slip in stoppage time.

Loreen Bender added to Cora Zicai’s opening goal after the ninety-ninth minute, but Jordynn Dudley and Allyson Sentnor, eight and nine minutes into stoppage time, respectively to force extra time for the United States.

Germany missed three consecutive shootout attempts as the USA advanced.
